Scott Roach has been working in wood and metal for
20 years, first as a furniture maker and now as a sculptor. He maintains a studio in Berkeley, CA.
“I have been exploring the use of harmonious contrasts in color, texture and form. Each wall sculpture is an assemblage of a variety of hard woods, steel or copper. My inspiration comes from primitive tribal art, architecture and jewelry. The meaning in each piece is open for personal interpretation”.
Considerable time is spent composing the basic form. Working alone, Scott builds a piece using a large assortment of tools to shape and texture various components. Any given piece may have surfaces that are sanded smooth, carved, burned, hammered or colored.
